Eat Sustainably

Healthy, local food choices are good for you, your family, and support local farmers. With eight farmers' markets, many community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs, and a variety of roadside produce stands, it is easier than ever to eat fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms year-round. Take advantage of living in one of the most productive agricultural regions in the nation. Many local farms also open their doors for tours and allow you to pick your own fruits and vegetables. Below are some suggestions on how to take advantage of Ventura's many sustainable food offerings.

Join a CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture)

Is that a rutabaga on your doorstep? By joining a local CSA, you can receive the freshest vegetables, fruits, meats, and eggs straight from the farm. As a CSA member you can choose which size box of produce is right for your family and pick it up weekly at a location convenient to your home or work. CSAs are a great way to support your local farms, eat nutritiously, try new foods, and bring variety to your table.

    Community-Supported Agriculture

Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) allows consumers to buy a share in a farm's production and receive weekly boxes of whatever vegetables, fruit, and other products are ready for market that week. Some CSAs deliver to neighborhood drop-off points; others require that each week's box be picked up at the farm. Some CSAs bundle the production of several small local farms to provide a wider selection of products.
