Reducing waste is an easy way to save money and reduce your carbon footprint. Purchase products made of recycled materials or take a moment to keep
recyclables out of the trash. One of the easiest ways to reduce waste is to consistently recycle paper, bottles and cans, electronic waste (e-waste)
batteries, and toner cartridges.
Our recycling efforts save the County of Ventura more than $200,000 per year!
Reduce Paper Waste
Cut the paper, not the trees. When you reduce the amount of paper you use, together we save trees and money. Collectively, our small actions, such as setting your printer default to double-sided printing, copying double sided, distributing publications electronically, and making County processes paperless whenever possible, will make a difference.
You can recycle paper, cans, plastic, bottles, and glass right at your desk. Simply obtain a Recycle All Paper (RAP) box for your office. All recyclables can be mixed together and will be separated at the recycling center. You can keep the RAP box under your desk for easy access, and when it is full, empty it into the nearest blue recycling bin.
- To get a RAP box or a blue recycling bin, contact the GSA Dispatch (805) 654-3878.
- Keep this poster handy to remind you what can be recycled.
Take the GSA Recycling Pledge
Commit to do your part to protect the environment by signing the GSA Recycling Pledge. Your signature is a voluntary promise to recycle and reduce waste and shows that you place a high priority on the environment. Click here to download a copy of the GSA recycling pledge and return via email to email@example.com.
Batteries can release toxic chemicals if they are sent to a landfill, so when it comes time to dispose of batteries, recycle them in The Big Green Box (TBGB) in your office. If your area needs a TBGB, send a request to GSAStore.firstname.lastname@example.org. Include the following information: number of boxes needed; brown mail location number; and your name and agency/department name.
Recycle Electronic Waste
E-waste includes old computers, office electronic equipment, mobile phones, television sets, and refrigerators. E-waste is considered hazardous and special steps must be taken to dispose of it. The County offers an e-waste pick up service. To request a pick up, click here.
Recycle Toner Cartridges
Remember to recycle your toner cartridges. It is an easy way to reduce waste and keep the cartridges out of our landfills. If you purchase remanufactured toner cartridges from Onestop, they will pick them up for recycling directly from your office. For other vendors, call and request a pick up or mail the cartridges back with the label they supply. Consider tasking one person in the office to collect and recycle cartridges.
Use the Surplus Property Virtual Warehouse
In order to maximize the internal reuse of County assets, GSA Procurement has implemented a
Surplus Property Virtual Warehouse that allows authorized County of Ventura and Ventura County Superintendent
of Schools employees to view and select surplus items via the intranet.
To further increase reuse and recycling efforts, if the item is not claimed for internal use after 14 days, it is made available to the general public, including County employees not directly involved with surplus operations or having privileged knowledge about an item.
