Ventura County Tree Planting Program

About the Ventura County Tree Planting Program

The County of Ventura’s Tree Planting Program is managed jointly by the County Executive Office – Sustainability Division, General Services Agency, and Resource Management Agency. Activities in this program support an annual tree planting target by these agencies and broader goals of increasing tree canopy across Ventura County.

Activities of this program include growing and stewarding tree canopy at County facilities and parks, facilitating community tree planting events, managing the County’s Tree Mitigation Fund Distribution Program, and creating a network of tree planting and urban forestry organizations in Ventura County to ensure that tree canopy coverage improves in areas where it is needed most.

In February of 2022, the Ventura County Tree Coalition held their first meeting. In the stakeholder workshop, coalition members heard from the Santa Clara Valley Urban Forestry Alliance, an initiative amongst municipalities in Santa Clara County aimed at urban forestry collaboration, about how they were created and their next steps. Members got a lightning round panel of topics ranging from community outreach to tree inventory tracking to field work expertise on conservation land conversion and connected with grant program managers from California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), and Ventura County Resource Management Agency.

Ventura County Tree Coalition

Formed in early 2022, the Ventura County Tree Coalition is a network of community organizations, nonprofits, land trusts, municipalities, and like-minded groups dedicated to preserving and enhancing Ventura County’s tree canopy. The Coalition was formed with the understanding that environmental issues such as loss of tree canopy and biomass are a regional problem requiring a diverse array of stakeholder driven solutions.
