Hands on Learning in an All-Electric Home

Come see a tiny, fully equipped all-electric home. Learn about and test some of the equipment you might use in your home construction or retrofit. Get hands on with–induction cooking; combi-ventless wash/dry; mini-split heating/cooling, solar panels and battery storage, etc…. and review example pricing, availability and associated benefits & potential issues (e.g. noise of appliances in small space; venting necessary in small space, peak loads use if off grid; etc.) American homes are responsible for 21% of American energy consumption, and with enhanced knowledge about embedded energy, operational, locational and disposal energy costs from housing, it is possible to reduce this footprint and create much needed, more affordable homes.

Learning objectives:

  • Test functionality of all electric, energy efficient appliances in a small energy efficient home
  • Learn from homeowners who have constructed ADUs and placed tiny homes on wheels (THOWs) in their yards: what went to plan; what went sideways; why they built; what inspired them; what they wish they could have done differently
  • Connect with additional resources, such as codes, appliance credits and code assistance
  • Understand Basic homes energy inputs and how these can be reduced
